Nurturing Your Feminist Business: Generative strategies for growth

October 26, 2023 @ 2:00 am - 4:00 pm

How does a feminist business grow?

We all know that growing as a feminist business means something beyond “scaling” or getting bigger. While some of us do want our business to get bigger, all of us want them to be better.  We want them to flourish and grow according to our own feminist, anti-oppression, anti-extraction principles.
We want our businesses to grow in how they serve our customers, how they engage and fulfill our employees, how they enable our agency and support our livelihoods, and how they influence the world around us.
When we reject or refuse conventional models of business success, we must also refuse conventional strategies for prompting “growth”. We can’t rely on financial metrics to set our priorities, we can’t focus on competition to spur us on, and we can’t maximize extraction to make us feel efficient or effective.
We need different strategies to nurture ‘feminist’ growth.
In this workshop, we’ll draw on two values of feminist business, Generativity and InterIndependence, to understand how your feminist business can grow in ways that sustain you and sustain your larger community.
InterIndependence tells us to grow stronger ourselves by simultaneously helping our community grow stronger.
Generativity tells us to focus on care, creativity, and learning as modes for promoting collective flourishing.

Since all learning and growth happens in relationship, we’ll consider which relationships are most likely to hold opportunities for your own business’s growth. Then ,we’ll draw on generative and generous business practices to create a gentle, sensible action plan for you and your team.
At the end of this workshop, you’ll have a sense of how you want to grow, where you want to grow, whose growth you want to contribute to, and how you can draw on other businesses, enterprises, people, and communities to sustain growth for all.
